The problem with the Future.

“God, it’s depressing, isn’t it? This is a year which most of us grew up knowing as The Future. Christ, it’s a year past 2000AD, which seemed sufficiently far away to do as the title of Britain’s most famous SF comic. But now… I see no crewed mission to Jupiter. I see no moon base. I see no big round space station, nor a transLunar Leonard Rossiter. Nor a decent videophone.

The problem with the future is that it’s boring. Its big secret is that it’s the present, and the present is never as attractive as the future. It should be, but it’s not.”
